The aim of the paper is to define the fundamentals of the biosphere reserves in the Slovak Republic and to characterize the problem areas of their operating. Based on the theoretical definition of biosphere reserves the paper discusses the main challenges and obstacles in management of four biosphere reserves in Slovak Republic &#8211; the Slovak Karst, Po\u013eana, Eastern Carpathians a&nbsp;Tatras. The information and data were collected by the interviews with the representatives of biosphere reserves and the Head of Slovak Committee for MAB.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Key words: <\/em><\/strong><em><em><em><em>Biosphere reserves.
